Alexander Starre is Assistant Professor of North American culture at the John F. Kennedy Institute at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. He is a former Humboldt Foundation fellow and has previously taught at the University of Göttingen and as visiting professor in American Studies at Brown University. Recent publications include Metamedia: American Book Fictions and Literary Print Culture after Digitization (University of Iowa Press, 2015), Projecting American Studies: Essays on Theory, Method, and Practice (ed. with Frank Kelleter, Winter Verlag, 2018), and The Printed Book in Contemporary American Culture: Medium, Object, Metaphor (ed. with Heike Schaefer, Palgrave Macmillan, 2019). He is currently working on a book about knowledge institutions and epistemic styles in the US around 1900. As a member of the project, he will conduct research on a project titled “Failed Scholar, Successful Scholarship: W.E.B. Du Bois and the Epistemic Style of Professionalized Social Inquiry in the U.S.”
